Meet the DaySpring Counseling Team
Dr. Jason E Newsome
President of DaySpring Counseling
Hi! Thanks for visiting. I’m Jason Newsome, the president of DaySpring Counseling and I am thrilled that you are wanting to learn more. I have been a mental health counselor for nearly 10 years. Since that time, I have worked with a variety of clients and client problems. In addition to my day-to-day counseling work, I have also spent a considerable amount of time and effort training other professionals and occasionally teaching at the University of Charleston.
As far as my education is concerned, I obtained a Regents Bachelor of Arts from WVU Institute of Technology, master’s degree in Counseling from Marshall University, and Doctor of Philosophy in Counseling Studies from Capella University.
The reason I do what I do is because I believe that people can improve their lives. I believe people can change the way they think and feel on a daily basis and also change how they act toward and interact with others. I believe people can have better relationships, a stronger sense of purpose, feel better about themselves, and have fulfilling lives regardless of what they have been through or where they’ve come from. From a practical standpoint, I believe most of our psychological problems can be improved by learning how to think differently. This is no easy task, for sure. However, I believe by tapping into our belief systems, weeding out the stuff that’s causing problems, and replacing it with truth, we really can make some big changes in our lives. To accomplish this, I primarily use Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy with individuals and Strategic Family Therapy when working with couples and families.
Personally, I have an amazing wife and three awesome children. I love to play golf and music. If there’s ever a career that calls for a person that is a terrible golfer and a mediocre musician, I’ll be set for life! I’m kidding, of course. I love helping people. It really is much more than a job. It’s a passion and a bit of a calling for me. I look forward to working with you to change your life!

Rance A. Berry
Hello! Thank you for your interest in DaySpring Counseling. My name is Rance Berry and I am one of the counselors here. I have been working in the mental health field since 2009. During that time, I have had the opportunity to partner with a wide range of clients. In 2003 I received my Bachelor’s degree from West Virginia University with an area of emphasis on Religious Studies. I received my Master’s degree in Counseling in 2009 from Marshall University. In addition to my clinical work, I am an ordained minister.
It was my work in my local church that pushed me into getting a counseling degree as I saw a need for this skillset in the church and the community. I have a heart for people and I love to serve others. I have been married to my wonderful, supportive wife for 10 years. I am the father of two boys. When I am not working, I am playing guitar, fishing, or playing and coaching basketball. I look forward to working with you.

Amy R. Thomas
Hi! My name is Amy Thomas and I am one of the counselors at DaySpring Counseling. Thank you for your interest in learning more about us. I have been a mental health counselor since 2008. During these years, I have had the opportunity to work with a wide range of clients. I spent several years working with clients experiencing problems with substance abuse in both inpatient and outpatient settings. I have also worked with children, adolescents and adults of all ages for problems such as work-related difficulties, relationship problems, stress, depression, child and adolescent behavior problems, anxiety, and a host of other concerns. I believe strongly in helping people learn to find balance in all areas of their lives. I also firmly believe in the power of changing negative thought patterns into more positive ones, and the relationship between our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. I received my Bachelor’s degree in 2005 in Psychology, and my Master’s degree in Counseling from Marshall University in 2008.
In my personal life, I have a wonderful husband and I am the mommy of two rambunctious little boys who are my world. In my free time I enjoy playing with my kids, being involved in various church activities, reading a good book, or watching a good mystery show or comedy on T.V. Never underestimate the power of a good Friends episode to brighten a person’s mood! I’m so glad you stopped by our website and I look forward to having an opportunity to work with you! Have a great day!
